Take the traditional British, gritty directing abilities of Peter Strickland: with a script that is both powerful, thrilling and psychologically challenging, you have a sure winner.
Very rarely do horror movies do exactly what they are supposed to, scare people, big budgets and quite often-big disappointments. The difference with the Berberian Sound Studio is that it moves away from unrealistic portrayals of real life and focuses on a very normal worker, doing his job in a sound studio in Italy. Set in the 1970's, Peter Strickland the director made a short film version of Berberian Sound Studio in 2005. This time round he's propelled it to the big screen, and put a very British dark twist on the film but kept it as realistic as possible, staying true to 1970's Italy.
